Help me Doctor – Renuca

Thanks a lot friends for overwhelming response here , as its hard to read each and every comment and reply them with equal attention here is today’s first question which is asked by RENUCA …..

Hi, Dr.Shilpa..Thx for caring enough to offer your expertise here.. I have one query which I wanted clarified with a dentist..
I have sensitive teeth (the enamel has worn out) and have been using Colgate sensitive for the last couple of months for relief but I was told that I shouldn’t be using it over extended period …is this true?

hi renuca….sorry i m yet to draft and edit my elaborate reply…………….apologies…..
but let me clear your doubt here…….your dentist is absolutely correct in saying that you should not use sensitivity tooth patses for prolonged periods, not more than three months at a stretch and that too only once a day.
the reason is that when u use these toothpastes for prolonged periods, the ingredients of these toothpastes cause sclerosis of dentinal tubules present in our teeth.sclerosis means hardening or inflammation …..and because of that inflammation the sensitivity increases……….
and i will update you in detail shortly……
