Our Expert your Queries

Dr Neeraj…warm regards ….I m back with another set of questions…… Dr.Shilpa

1. You suggested me to use an oil free sunscreen.

Please suggest any particular brand. Currently I m using Neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch sunblock, though it has not broken me out but it does make my skin oily.

Clinique Solar Smart sunscreens are one of the really good oil-free ones and they are packed with anti-oxidants and all and act as a very good makeup base. Also Shiseido makes some lighter sunscreens but I always noticed an oily film on my face after few hours which do not happen with Clinique.

2. You told me to Make “exfoliation” my best friend and use a clarifying lotion from Clinique.

Are the clarifying lotions meant for exfoliation? If not then does u suggest any particular exfoliator, which is not harsh on skin as most of them are? Brand reccos plz.

Clarifying lotions contain Salicylic acid and Acetyl Glucosamine, so when you wipe your face with a cotton ball, they dissolve the superficial layer of dead skin and reveal a younger looking glowing skin. I am not a big fan of scrubs as good exfoliators as we don’t have any control on them and they can cause lot of skin damage and abrasions on the face.

3. You suggested making my own tinted moisturizer by mixing equal parts of oil free moisturizer + serum (any) + liquid foundation + oil free sunscreen.

I need suggestions for serum. And plz do elaborate on other uses for serum also.

Serums are custom fitted according to your skin type, life style and requirements. So you must get your skin analyzed at different counters to see which serum suits and fulfills the criteria. I love Dior Capture totale one essential serum in anti ageing the most, Clinique Even better for pigmentation and Estee Lauder Advanced night repair for plumping up your skin..

4. I have found among your various posts that you are really fond of Shiseido accentuating sticks.plz elaborate a little on them. Are they similar to cream blushes?

The accentuating sticks are actually not cream blushers as they have lots of silicons in them. The texture feels very powdery and it does dry to powder form so I prefer calling it a STICK BLUSH without really understanding the texture. The formula is versatile and long lasting and true to the color. I love to build it up in layers than putting all one time and sometimes layer a powder shimmer over it to get that mish mash of dewiness and yet the blush on your face. I suggest one must buy all the colors.

5.mascaras.they say that you should change your mascara every three months….but what should a person like me do who uses mascara just once every three months….that ways I think it’s a waste to buy a mascara….but I can’t do without it…what do I do?

Try getting mascara samples or use disposable mascara wands in this case. Once opened the mascara is subjected to environmental effects and on long run can be detrimental to your eyes.

6. Anti Aging creams and serums. Do they really work? What are the ingredients that one should look for in these creams? And I seriously need some brand recommendations here…..I m 3o yrs old…

Serums are not age specific. They are concern specific so see what you need and that is the direction you must follow.

7. Can I become a cosmetologist…..but I don’t have an M.B.B.S. degree…??

You can be a cosmetologist without MBBS degree. There are various courses like CIDESCO and CIBTAC that enable you to become a beauty practitioner and aesthetician. Best of luck!!

      Hi Nidhi,

Clarifying lotion is one of its kind liquid exfoliator with Salicylic acid to melt awaay surface dulling flakes, Acetyl glucosamine to boost cellular renewal and hydrate at the same time. With one sweep of cotton ball you reveal a glowing complexion hidden with rougher outer skin, that absorbs your serums and moisturizers, looks more even toned and on a lng run Clarifying helps improve your skin texture and clarity. Pores are clearer, complexion look flawless and your skin is resilient.

OMG after all this description, please give it a try!
